PUBLISHER'S LETTER

.../Issue 223

I have to apologise to quite a number of subscribers and supporters. Over the past two months several have phoned to say that they have paid amounts into either the APN or Mission Rescue accounts: and said they will fax the details. Unfortunately, we have been having considerable trouble with our new fax machine. Sometimes the power feeding through is not strong enough to trigger the starting mechanism. On other occasions we hear the start signal and can hear a ghastly tapping, but nothing comes through. This is very embarrassing, as it means we cannot acknowledge payments and gifts: and I do try to be punctilious about this. I hope this catches the eyes of those affected.

I am afraid I was so preoccupied with our special issue on the farm murders that I have seriously neglected my obligations to Mission Rescue. We have made some changes here and taken on new duties, but I will tell you about that later. In the meantime, many, many thanks to all those kind folk who continue to keep us supplied with clothing and finance. Christmas is coming up and we are now trying to collect toys and other goodies, especially for the 150 Afrikaner kiddies at the Newlands food kitchen.

Many of these are the children of unemployed families and, as you may suppose, having a very thin time of it indeed. If we can bring some fun and pleasure into their bleak little lives, then I think that is our duty. If you have children who have grown out of their toys, or who have toys to spare, I would be deeply grateful if these could be delivered to my office. They certainly don’t need to be new: we have people who help repair and restore toys, but time is running out.

I simply cannot bear to think of any small child waking up, all expectant, on Christmas morning, to find there is nothing for him except another empty day, that he is one of God’s stepchildren. If you can help us here, please do. If you are in a position to help us financially, Mission Rescue’s account is No 07 381 75166, Volkskas Bank, Northcliff. I know all too well that times here are very rough indeed, but no matter how small, your contribution comes as a God’s blessing. More on this next month.
